PET Radiochemistry and Radiopharmacy

چکیده
References .......................................................................... 27 Abstract The vast majority of PET radiopharmaceuticals today are cyclotron produced. Carbon-11 (C), Nitrogen-13 (N), Oxygen-15 (O) products are created for in-house use only due to their short half-lives. The longer half-life of Fluorine-18 means that F-labeled PET radiotracers can be widely distributed. Production of radiopharmaceuticals is computer-controlled and automated. Automation increases both reliability and efficiency of PET operations while decreasing the radiation dose to the staff. For today, FDG remains the workhorse of oncologic PET imaging. Additional F PET radiotracers directed at a range of molecular processes are being studied and should become available in the future.

متن کاملSulfur - fluorine bond in PET radiochemistry
The importance of the sulfur-fluorine bond is starting to increase in modern medicinal chemistry literature. This is due to a better understanding of the stability and reactivity of this moiety depending on the various oxidation states of sulfur. Furthermore, several commercial reagents used for mild and selective fluorination of organic molecules are based on the known reactivity of S-F groups...
متن کاملOpen letter to journal editors on: International Consensus Radiochemistry Nomenclature Guidelines
After observing an increased incidence of imprecise and sometimes erroneous use of nuclear chemistry, radiochemistry, and radiopharmacy related terms and nomenclature in scientific reports, an international working group of experts was assembled to address the issue. Upon extensive consultation with peers within the field of radiochemistry and radiopharmaceutical sciences over a 3-year period a...
متن کاملPET tracers and radiochemistry.
This paper provides a brief review of the radiochemistry of radiopharmaceuticals used in positron emission tomography (PET). It includes some history of PET, the basic formation of radionuclides in a cyclotron target, the processing of the precursor molecules into a useful PET radiotracer and the clinical significance and outlook for PET radiotracers. This review is based on a series of recent ...
متن کاملAccelerator and detector physics at the Bern medical cyclotron and its beam transport line
Cyclotrons are used in medical applications mostly for radioisotope production for positron emission tomography (PET) and proton therapy. PET is a diagnostic technique requiring daily production of radiotracers. Most of the PET cyclotron centres produce 18F for the synthesis of fl uorodeoxyglucose (FDG). The cyclotron laboratory in Bern is a part of the SWAN project aiming at the realization of...
